    Who we are

    Community Safety Hosts work for the organizations and businesses of West Broadway, helping keep the places people rely on welcoming and accessible. Hosts are a steady presence on foot, moving between those places and getting to know the people who live, work and spend time here.

    The approach is patience, de-escalation, dignity, and connecting people to what they actually need. Relationships, not enforcement.

    When to call

    If you’re worried about someone, give us a call and we’ll talk it through.

    • When someone is in distress or unwell.
    • When a person needs help getting to shelter, a community clinic or a resource centre.
    • When someone would feel safer walking with company — home, to a bus stop, or to an appointment.
    • When tension is building and a calm person on the scene could keep it from getting worse.
    • When you want a wellness check on someone you’re worried about.

    What happens when you call

    We decide the response with you, not for you.

    Someone on our team talks it through with you. That might mean a Community Safety Host team coming out, help over the phone, or connecting the person to another service.

    We’re staffed on a schedule rather than around the clock. If you reach us outside coverage hours your message is picked up on the next operating day, and if you’ve asked us to, we’ll tell you how it was resolved.

    Hosts are in the neighbourhood throughout their shifts, and they help people they come across along the way: a wellness check, a safe walk, or getting someone to resources nearby or in touch with another service.
